From October 10 to 13, 2018, the 16th National Congress of Botanical Society of China and the 85th Anniversary Academic Conference were held in Kunming, Yunnan. Our alumnus, Academician Chong Kang, was elected President of the 16th Board of Directors of the Botanical Society of China. Speaking on behalf of the 16th Council, academician Chong Kang thanked the 15th Council for its contributions over the past five years and introduced the development plan for the next five years. He said that the Botanical Society of China would shoulder the responsibility of serving scientific community and constructing the platform more efficiently.
The Botanical Society of China is one of the oldest academic societies in China. It was founded in Chongqing in 1933 by 19 well-known botanists including Hu Xianxu, Xin Shuangqiu, former President of Lanzhou University, and Dong Shuangqiu, former Academic Dean of Lanzhou University. Over the past 85 years, the Botanical Society of China has made significant contributions to the development of plant science and the scientific communications. This annual meeting is undoubtedly a major event in the field of plant science in China. The conference will have a positive influence on promoting the development of plant science in China.
