Ecology studies the relationship between organisms and organisms, and the interactions between organisms and the environments. Modern ecology pays great attention to both theoretical research and practical applications. With the development of ecological civilization and environmental protection, the subject of ecology will have broader and promising directions. The major of ecology in the School of Life Sciences at Lanzhou University is focused on the characteristics of fragile ecological environments, inhabited minorities and economically undeveloped areas of Western China. To meet the needs of national construction of ecological environment, the subject of ecology aims at educating professionals with strong ecological knowledge, comprehensive quality and ability of innovation.
Students majoring in ecology will study basic theories and knowledge of ecology and biology. The students will also study mathematics, physics, chemistry and social sciences. The graduated students will master the basic theories of ecology and other related natural sciences and have the skills of conducting ecological experiments and field studies. The graduated students will be competent in teaching and conducting scientific research in the fields of agriculture, forestry, water conservancy, environmental protection and planning in the schools, research institutes and the government.
