研究生期间的专业为水生生物学专业，研究方向为水生哺乳动物的保护生物学。既掌握了宏观生态学工作方法，又熟悉了分子生物学实验技术。此外还对动物解剖学和组织切片技术进行了研究。

做博后期间的专业为生态学，研究方向为鸟类行为生态学。以青藏高原鸟类为研究对象，重点探讨动物的合作繁殖行为和婚配策略的意义及进化。

目前在动物学研究所的研究方向包括鸟类学和行为生态学。仍然以高原鸟类作为研究对象，探讨鸟类亲子关系的发育、婚配策略对社会关系的影响，以及鸟类对高原极端环境的行为适应。

2017年获得第十二届郑作新鸟类科学青年奖。
