研究方向
1.植物生理生态学 针对西北高寒、干旱和盐渍环境下植物的种类、形态特征和群落特征进行研究；阐述植物在宏观和微观水平上的抗性机制及其生态学意义。
2.环境生物学 主要针对极端环境下微生物的多样性及其抗逆机制进行研究。
3.生物质能源 主要针对寒区沼气厌氧发酵技术进行研究。

1998年入选中科院“西部之光”人才培养计划、2001年入选中科院 “百人计划”，2002年入选教育部“跨世纪优秀人才培养计划”和“中国科学院优秀博士后”。在中科院寒区旱区环境与工程研究所国家重点实验室和以色列巴伊兰大学(Bar-Ilan University) 从事了两期博士后研究。2006年获“国家杰出青年基金”。2010年入选甘肃省领军人才。一直从事有关植物分子生物学、环境植物学和分子生态学方面的教学和科研工作。近年主持了国家转基因新品种培育重大专项、科技部国际合作项目、中国科学院“百人计划”项目、教育部科技基础条件平台项目、国家自然科学基金面上项目和“中国西部环境和生态科学重大研究计划”项目、甘肃省农业生物技术研究与应用开发项目等各类科研项目，在国内外学术刊物上发表论文210余篇，其中SCI刊物收录80余篇，编写专著4部，申请发明专利8项，省级鉴定成果两项，获教育部高等学校自然科学奖一等奖1项。
